Accommodation

For the June 2010 conference, the Resilience Research Centre has arranged two options for accommodation.

  1. If you would prefer to stay off-campus, we have arranged a special group rate at two hotels.
    1) The Atlantica Hotel Halifax is a 10 minute walk or short taxi ride to the university and located on the central commons of the city. We will also be offering periodic shuttles to and from the conference venues. Reservations can be made by sending an email to reservations@atlanticahalifax.com or by telephone to their toll free reservations number 888-810-7288 or to (902) 423-1161 and ask for the Resilience Research Conference rate.
    2) The Lord Nelson Hotel will also be a conference hotel, though rooms may now all be booked. The hotel is located directly downtown, only 1km from the Conference site. See here for more information about rates and amenities or contact them directly by emailing ask@lordnelsonhotel.com or by phone at (902)423-5130 or toll free 1-800-565-2020.

  2. For those wishing to stay on campus, at a much more affordable rate, Howe Hall is a great option. See here for more information about rates and amenities. Click here to submit a reservation request.

Travel

By plane

Halifax Stanfield International Airport (IATA Airport Code: YHZ) is located in Enfield, Nova Scotia, approximately 30 minutes outside of downtown Halifax. They offer international flights to and from the world’s largest cities, as well as a larger range of destinations within North America. To find out about more about airlines that come into HSIA, their website offers a full listing here.

Getting into the city
Once you have arrived, there are many ways to travel into Halifax.

By taxi

Taxi services are available curbside in the domestic arrivals area for arriving flights. Rates vary, but are generally around $50 and take about 30-45 minutes to get to the city-center/Dalhousie campus.

By shuttle bus

Airporter Inc. provides shuttle buses to and from Halifax, running regularly from 6am until midnight.

If you plan to stay at the Lord Nelson, they will stop outside the hotel upon request. If you plan to stay in the Howe Hall Residence, on Dalhousie Campus, the closest shuttle stop is in front of the Public Gardens, located approximately 1km away from Howe Hall. To view their full schedule, click here.

A one-way, adult fare on the Airporter shuttle bus is $21 CAD (including tax).
